Sale

I often wonder if I didn't live in the city, would I still be a photoblogger? What would I take pictures of in the Suburbs?

Update: Given the comment on this one, I should clarify that this photo is from a suburban department store, the water tower below is from a suburban area, and the pub above is also a suburban location. It was photos like these and a few others I haven't put up yet that made me wonder.

Luggage land

I don't know what happened over the holiday, but there is unclaimed baggage all over the place at LaGuardia. That whole area always bothers me because there's nothing I can see that prevents someone from walking out with any old suitcase off the carousel -except the person who actually owns the bag who may be looking for it. In this case, with bags everywhere, I can't see how some people aren't leaving with extras.

Rocket

As powerful as it looks.

Sushi & Noodle

This is not quite what I see when I look at this place. I'll have to try again. I like these two together because I think the scene has a real riotous chaos with the colors and lights and storefronts and bustling people, but also a certain tranquility in the people in the window. I think those two elements are separated in this two shot series.

Legs

What a weird scene. Reminds me of that Herbi Hancock video.

Puppy shopping

Tacky

This week's Photo Friday challenge is Tacky. I don't even know if I qualify for the challenge if I don't post on a Friday, but it's still fun to play.

Holiday cheer

Playing with some photoshop filters here.

Wooden escalator

Is this sticker as unique as these escalators?

Cab Stack

Quite a sight to see a car carrier full of sparkling new yellow taxis.

Unfortunately, we pulled up next to it at the red light, which didn't provide for much of a wide shot.

Battery Park City Broadsheet

The Battery Park City Broadsheet needs to get a Web site because this is silly. What I'm trying to show is that they have a cool map on the future real estate planning of Battery Park City. I don't imagine you'll be able to read much of it even if you click it to make it bigger. The Broadsheet is a free paper but it doesn't come in a sidewalk box, so you have to come downtown and look in ATM lobbies and Diner doorways.

Please stand back

I'm trying not to think that this smear is what happens to you if you don't stand back.

ACK!

On the way to work this morning.

Abandoned

My secret photo passion is broken umbrellas. I have a whole folder full of them. There's something about the colors and the fragility... anyway, when I saw this week's PhotoFriday challenge I had a lot in the ready.

Night dining

This lady works her cart later than any vender I've seen except maybe for the guys who work 42nd between 7th & 8th.

Window

Generally I try to keep away from taking pictures of things that are set up to look good. I'm sure someone smart has already thought through whether taking a picture of art still counts as art. Anyway, this was a moment of weakness.

Sideways

Finally got around to seeing Sideways this weekend. Two thumbs up. We probably didn't need to get there quite as early as we did, however.

Gate

ABC

It's definitely worth at least a quick peek at ABC this season, if only for the spectacle of it all. While we were there they had some African musicians and dancers performing, plus a seriously cool Santa, plus... well, you know the store is a riot.

Seven

Part of me will be sorry to see those bright orange stripes go.

Junk Mail

Just a wild guess that sometime in the near future, the folks who live in the Flatiron district are going to have a problem with the clubs in the neighborhood.

Quick!

Hurry! There's no line at the soup place!

Benches

Top: lower east side (boy that winter light is harsh)
Bottom: Battery Park City (I love what a mess of foliage is behind the bench. Rare for such a well maintained park, but this was the off season.)
