Abstract in the shadows
I have a ton of shots of this person's work. I don't know the name but I think I once saw it tagged as J-Bird. The only text indication I've seen in a couple pieces with the word "ahead." Anyway, this is the best I've seen so far; right there next to real garbage cans like that.

Neighborhood report: Bedford & N6th

A Coffe Shop
Northeast corner, Bedford Ave and N6th.

I guess it only makes sense that with the population of Williamsburg exploding and all of those people syphoning into the Bedford Ave L train that there'd be new shops opening to dump coffee on all those commuters as they pass.

When I asked the fellow sitting there in the doorway what was going in he told me, "A coffee shop." When will it open? September.

'Dee Light'
This used to be the deli on the southwest corner of Bedford and N6th.

My brief conversation with one of the workers whose first language is something Asian:

What's going in here, a restaurant?
Yes... No, a store.
Oh? A store? What sort of store? Do you know?
It's ah... De light.
Dee light?
Yes, de light. De light... [walks away]

So.... another tastee d lite? A lighting store? Groove is in the heart? I guess it's not really news if I don't know what I'm reporting. Probably a store anyway.

"The Wackness"
Before I left they were setting up to shoot "The Wackness" on Dobbin St. IMDB doesn't have much but Google had some shots of one of the Olsen twins in it.

Now that I look at it, it has a July date so I wonder if I saw something else setting up.

The Beastie Boys played McCarren Pool. It wasn't one of the free concerts though, so a lot of people gathered on the outskirts to listen and peek over the fence. I had my tripod and had some fun taking night shots. In my head they're all part of the same outing but I'll break them up thematically here.

Report from Bedford's end

In case anyone is checking their RSS feed for blog reports on the commute situation, there are large crowds waiting for the B61 bus up on Bedford and Nassau. There's a bigger one across from Dunkin Donuts. Folks on line say there hasn't been a B61 for a half hour at least. With each stop having a bus-worth of people, I don't see how the MTA digs itself out until folks start to hear the subway rumble again.

I haven't gotten around to looking up what the deal is with this performance art. If I had to guess I'd say it has something to do with women's beauty rituals since basically this girl just keeps getting ready to go out, putting on make-up, changing her clothes, doing her hair.
